Oyster

The candlestick holder and wax collector ensemble was a design response to the pondering of Darkness and Time. When lit, the candle illuminates its context. While it burns, the wax melts and gradually the space returns to darkness. Meanwhile, the falling wax is collected in a cast bronze oyster shell where, as it dries and hardens, it slowly begins to take the form of the now absent life. The design of the candlestick holder itself was inspired by geometric proportions and forms observed in the natural world. At the end of the process, the wax is melted from the oyster shell, the candlestick replaced in the holder and the cycle renewed with the return of candlelight
Bhí an bailiúcháin choinnleora agus coinnéalaí céarach mar fhreagra dhearaidh don mhacnamh ar Dhorchadas agus Am. Nuair a lastar é, caitheann an coinneall solas ar a chomhthéacs. Fad is a dhóann sé, bíonn an chéir ag léa, agus de réir a chéile casann an spás ar ais go dorchadas. Ag an am céanna, bailítear an chéir i sliogáncré-úmha oisre, áit a thriomaíonn sé agus a éiríonn sé crua, go mall tógann sé cruth an tsaoil atá anois múctha.. Spreagadh dearadh an choinnleora é féin ag comhréireanna agus ag cruthanna iolraíocha ata le feiscint sa dúlra. Ag deireadh an próisis, léatar an chéir ón sliogán oisre, an coinnleoir athchurtha sa choinnéalaí agus déantar athnuacháin ar an gcúrsa le filleadh solais coinnle.
